Google Contacts has officially introduced the ability to view message notifications in the widget, as announced in the “What’s New” section of version 4.34 on the Google Play Listing. Users can now see and respond to notifications from specific apps in the Contact widget by placing an “Individual Contact” widget on their home screen and accessing a notification bell icon in the top right corner. Once permission is granted, messages will appear in the resizable widget, showing the message content and providing smart reply suggestions. The widget also indicates when there are multiple replies.

Moreover, the widget now offers the feature to “View shared location from Google Maps,” displaying the current neighborhood or city on the full profile image. Tapping on the location corresponds to the Map card that appears on full contact pages. Additionally, users can now set a specific time of day to receive reminders of important dates by navigating to the Organize > Reminders tab and setting the time at the bottom of the date page.

In other news, Google has reversed its decision to replace the Floating Action Button (FAB) with a “plus” button in the top right corner of the app. Previous design changes had also included adding the FAB to the “Featured” and “Organize” tabs, making the creation option available throughout the app. However, both design experiments have been reverted in recent weeks.

Overall, these updates enhance the functionality of Google Contacts, providing users with more convenient ways to manage their messages, view shared locations, and set reminders for important dates. The new features in the widget improve the user experience and make it easier to stay organized and connected through the contact app. These changes demonstrate Google’s commitment to continuously improving its services based on user feedback and evolving design trends.
