In today’s column, I examine a new advance in generative AI and large language models (LLMs) that enables the use of group chats. In a group chat, you and other invited participants engage in an online dialogue while logged in to AI. The highlight is that the AI is also an active participant.
An innovative way to use an LLM-based group chat is to conduct it as a mental health therapy session. Here’s the deal. You and your human therapist log in to an AI that offers a group chat feature. Your therapist will conduct the therapy session as usual. Meanwhile, the LLM is quietly paying attention. If necessary or requested, the AI will openly participate in the chat.
