Laoly ensures that immigration data is now securely stored on Amazon Web Services.

Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly has confirmed the security of immigration data transferred to Amazon Web Service (AWS) after a recent ransomware cyber attack. Laoly stated that the data is safe without any issues. However, he did not provide a timeline for when the data will be transferred back to the National Data Center in Indonesia. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights moved immigration data to AWS due to the outage at the National Data Center caused by the ransomware attack. As of Monday, 211 agencies were identified as affected, which increased to 282 agencies by the following day. On Wednesday, 44 agencies were ready for data recovery, while the rest were still in the process. Five agencies had already resumed community services. The National Cybersecurity and Cryptography Agency and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology are actively working to address the cyber attack, with Laoly stating that a non-state actor was behind the incident. Indonesia is monitoring the situation closely following similar cyber attacks in India and Canada to enhance data center protection.
