KPMG partner fined for using AI to pass AI test

A KPMG Australia partner has been fined A$10,000 (US$7,000) after using AI tools to cheat on an internal training course on the use of AI.

The unnamed partner was forced to repeat the test after uploading training materials to an AI platform to answer questions about using the rapidly evolving technology.

According to KPMG, more than two dozen employees were caught using AI tools for internal audits this fiscal year.

The incident is the latest example of a professional services firm struggling with employees using AI to cheat on exams or when producing work for clients.

“Like most organizations, we have been grappling with the role and use of AI in the context of internal training and testing,” said Andrew Yates, CEO of KPMG Australia. “It’s very hard to get a handle on this given how quickly society has embraced it.”
