American technology company Oracle introduced its new artificial intelligence suite, HeatWave Gen AI, to the Korean press through a virtual conference led by Nipun Agarwal, the senior vice president of MySQL database and HeatWave development at Oracle. The suite, launched in Korea last Friday, is designed to assist companies in building and applying generative AI models within their cloud database with ease.

One of the key features of HeatWave Gen AI is the industry’s first in-database large language model (LLM), which eliminates the need for customers to move their data to another location. Additionally, the suite includes automatic vector storage, enabling computers to efficiently utilize converted data for AI applications without requiring specialized skills from users.

Agarwal emphasized that HeatWave Gen AI provides an integrated and data-driven solution that prioritizes security and simplicity in applications. The suite aims to reduce the costs associated with developing generative AI applications by offering automation. Moreover, a chatbot feature within HeatWave Gen AI is available to address developer inquiries using natural language or the SQL database programming language.

Oracle believes that industries dealing with unstructured data, such as banks and medical facilities, will benefit from HeatWave Gen AI, particularly those handling information stored in PDF files or non-electronic legal formats. The company asserts that the suite ensures data privacy by training its in-database LLMs on public data, preventing any risk of data leakage.

Agarwal elaborated on the process, stating that vector results are sent as input to the LLMs, which do not retain any information or history of the business content. While HeatWave Gen AI currently supports the Korean language with two LLMs in the database (Mistral AI’s Mistral 7B and Meta’s Llama 3), Agarwal acknowledged that the results may not be as optimal as in English at this stage. However, he expressed confidence that improvements would be made rapidly to enhance the efficacy of the suite for Korean users in the near future.

In conclusion, Oracle’s HeatWave Gen AI software suite offers innovative solutions for companies seeking to leverage generative AI models within their cloud database infrastructure. With features like in-database LLMs, automatic vector storage, and a chatbot interface, Oracle aims to streamline the process of building and implementing AI applications while ensuring data privacy and security for users across various industries.
