Employers are being inundated with “machine gun” applications as job seekers increasingly turn to AI to write cover letters or CVs, prompting warnings that candidates who rely too heavily on the technology risk wasting time.
Zoe Sullivan, head of people and culture at recruitment organization Co-Op Group, says AI has seen a surge in applications, particularly among white-collar workers.
“Some candidates use AI to polish their resumes, but many use it to misrepresent themselves,” she says. “This means the manual part of the process has become huge for recruiters.”
