CAnberra rolled out the red carpet this week for one of the AI overlords whose technology is pushing the world down the path of creative destruction. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, the supposedly “good” tech oligarch, spun his version of a machine-driven future with the verve of a man who has unraveled the mysteries of the universe—or at least created a predictive textual model that can evaluate humanity’s findings and spit out compelling summaries of our collective consciousness.
He delighted the Prime Minister, various elected officials and technology celebrities with his pitch Good AI that would transform the economy before becoming the first company to sign up to the government’s new Data Center Principles, conveniently published just a week earlier. It was a convincing shill and, to be fair, Amodei isn’t the worst of the gods.
