‘It’s going to be a stressful job’: Sam Altman is offering a salary of $555,000 to fill the most difficult role in AI

The creator of ChatGPT has posted a job opening with a salary of $555,000 per year and an intimidating job description that would cause Superman to take a sharp intake of breath.

In a near-impossible task, the “head of preparedness” at OpenAI will be directly responsible for countering risks posed by increasingly powerful AIs to human mental health, cybersecurity, and biological weapons.

That’s before the successful candidate has to worry about the possibility that AIs could soon start training themselves, as some experts fear they could “turn against us.”

“It’s going to be a stressful job, and you’re going to be thrown into the deep end pretty much immediately,” said Sam Altman, the San Francisco-based organization’s executive director, as he launched the search for “a critical role” to “help the world.”
