The Israeli government has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) (AMZN.O) and Google for a more than $ 1 billion project to provide cloud services to the country’s public sector and military.
Amazon and Google have defeated Microsoft (MSFT.O), Oracle (ORCL.N) and IBM (IBM.N) in the tender for the four-phase project “Nimbus”, announced the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday.
They will set up on-premise cloud locations in Israel with an initial investment of 4 billion shekels ($ 1.2 billion). These websites will keep information within the borders of Israel under strict security guidelines.
The four phases of the project include the acquisition and construction of a cloud infrastructure, the formulation of government guidelines for migration to the cloud, integration and migration as well as the control and optimization of cloud activity.
