After Richard Tice posted a picture of what appeared to be a reform campaign rally on Sunday, experts and social media sleuths took a closer look – and concluded, based on a variety of telltale signs, that the image was either edited or generated by artificial intelligence. Here are some of the clues that critics questioned.
1. Mutilated fingers
A woman has six fingers on one hand and extra long ones on the other. The man in the beige jacket has three extremely long fingers that look like sausages. AI often makes mistakes.
2. Garbled characters
The signs are supposed to say “Get Starmer Out” but the text is more like “Get Stuppence out”. The reform arrow on many of them is also shaky. AI image programs often have difficulty generating or editing text.
