During the annual Nutanix user conference in Barcelona, it was announced that the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) would offer a comprehensive platform for Kubernetes multi-cloud management. This platform would utilize AI for orchestration and management of clusters, without requiring specific knowledge of Kubernetes for individual services. The NKP is expected to be available this summer as part of Nutanix’s Beacon Project for Kubernetes.
The NKP expands on Nutanix’s existing single platform that enables organizations to adopt multicloud and on-premises infrastructure more easily. Tobi Knaup, Nutanix’s senior director and general manager of cloud native, highlighted the extension of the existing operating model to Kubernetes, providing a single platform for applications and data with a broad portfolio of data services.
The platform aims to simplify and lower the threshold for Kubernetes adoption from both a user and management perspective. It integrates with major cloud providers like PCG, AWS, and Azure, as well as other platforms such as OpenShift. NKP combines Nutanix’s Kubernetes Engine with the D2IQ family of products, acquired by Nutanix in 2023.
NKP serves as a central platform for managing Kubernetes clusters across various environments, whether running on Nutanix or vSphere infrastructure, or on managed Kubernetes services in the public cloud. This approach ensures portability of applications and allows for seamless operation and management of Kubernetes anywhere it is deployed.
Additionally, NKP will incorporate GPT-in-a-Box 2.0 for expanded NVIDIA accelerated computing and LLM support. The platform targets organizations like the University of Canberra, which is considering NKP as part of their hybrid multi-cloud strategy to empower students and researchers with self-service and cloud-native applications.
The features of NKP include integration with Nutanix’s data services portfolio, automation for simplified Kubernetes management, and a complete platform without vendor lock-in based on CNCF-compliant Kubernetes. It also enables multi-cluster fleet management through a centralized management plane, offering a standardized way to manage Kubernetes across different environments.
Overall, the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform is designed to streamline Kubernetes adoption, management, and operation in a multi-cloud environment, providing organizations with a cohesive and standardized platform for deploying and managing applications and data.
