Fortunately for managers, building human capital takes a long time. At least in the past: Artificial intelligence is, among other things, a technology that accelerates learning and increases performance. Millions of people now use large language models. They don’t all flirt with their chatbots; Instead, they have found that with the help of AI they can complete tasks they have never done before and quickly learn about topics that previously seemed inaccessible to them. What happens if you suddenly increase the speed at which human capital can be created? This is one of the challenges that AI brings to the business world, which is struggling to figure out what value the technology brings.

It seems strange to consider AI as a tool to increase human capital for several reasons. Doesn’t their benefit lie in the intellectual automation that makes hard-earned human knowledge obsolete? The leading AI companies are talking about a future in which their systems have replaced workers…
