The Irish arm of Amazon Web Services’ data center business experienced significant growth last year, with revenue increasing by 25% to €6.08 billion. Operating profit also rose by 21%, reaching €40.07 million. Despite net interest payments and a gain on asset disposal, the company reported a pre-tax profit of €15.16 million. However, after incurring a corporation tax charge, ADSI recorded an after-tax loss of €10.85 million. The company paid a dividend of 600 million euros and saw an increase in the number of employees to 1,698. Personnel costs rose by €28.57 million, with salaries accounting for €155.17 million and share-based payments totaling €33.8 million.
The accounts filed by ADSI come at a time when Google Ireland announced plans for a new data center in Dublin. Despite concerns about restrictions on data centers, Amazon’s web services business continued to grow. The company’s directors highlighted administrative expenses as a key performance indicator, which increased to €5.73 billion due to higher data center operating costs. ADSI’s equity stands at €4.6 billion.
In addition to ADSI, separate accounts for Amazon Support Services Ltd, based in Cork Airport Business Park, show a pre-tax loss of €12.6 million. The company provides customer service, logistics, and support services to group companies. Revenue increased to €298 million, and the number of employees grew to 2,183. Personnel costs rose to €136.16 million, with share-based payments totaling €20.32 million.
Meanwhile, a decision is pending from An Bord Pleanála on appeals challenging plans for three new data centers by AWS firm Universal Developers LLC in north Dublin. These centers would have a combined power load of 73 MW on a 65-acre site in Dublin fifteen. The accounts also show that spending on utilities decreased last year, while tangible assets and leasing assets were valued at €1.36 billion. The directors’ total remuneration increased to €850,000, with bonuses, emoluments, and pension contributions included.
