ESPOO, Finland, May 14, 2024 – IQM quantum computers (IQM) has announced a collaboration with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to exhibit a joint demonstration of integrating quantum computing and high performance computing (HPC) at ISC High Performance 2024 in Hamburg. The collaboration between the two companies lays the foundation for future integrated offerings, showcasing the potential of a high-performance hybrid quantum computing solution.
The demonstration will highlight a hybrid solution utilizing classical and quantum hardware running integration software to leverage the capabilities of both quantum computing and classical HPC. This integration is crucial for the future of high-performance computing, as quantum computing has the potential to solve problems that classical supercomputers alone cannot.
In recent years, IQM has been leading initiatives to provide turnkey hardware solutions for HPC center deployment and prepare HPC centers to be quantum-ready. In Germany, IQM will integrate a quantum system into an HPC supercomputer at the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ), one of Germany’s national supercomputing centers.
Dr. Peter Eder, head of strategic partnerships at IQM Quantum Computers, emphasized the potential benefits of integrating quantum computing and HPC resources, stating that this collaboration highlights the maximum computational power that can be achieved by combining the strengths of both technologies. Kirk Bresniker, VP and Chief Architect of Hewlett Packard Labs, echoed this sentiment, stressing the readiness of hybrid quantum-classical platforms for HPC center users to explore and develop advanced algorithms.
The collaboration between IQM and HPE aims to bridge the gap between quantum computing and HPC, focusing on developing hybrid quantum/classical solutions. This joint effort reflects ongoing engineering efforts to improve the integration of quantum computing and HPC in future product co-developments.
IQM is a global leader in building quantum computers, providing local quantum computers for supercomputing centers, enterprises, and research laboratories. The company also offers a quantum computing offering in the cloud called IQM Resonance. IQM’s commercial quantum computers include the 50-qubit commercial quantum computer co-development project with VTT in Finland, the HPC quantum accelerator (Q-Exa) in Germany, and the first quantum accelerator in Spain. With over 290 employees and offices in various locations, IQM is at the forefront of advancing quantum exploration and research.
In conclusion, the collaboration between IQM and HPE at ISC High Performance 2024 showcases the potential for integrating quantum computing and HPC to enhance computational power and develop advanced algorithms. This joint demonstration highlights the ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between quantum computing and HPC, paving the way for future developments in hybrid quantum/classical solutions.
