DES MOINES — Iowa is moving its executive branch data from outdated physical servers to a cloud system with Amazon Web Services, a shift projected to save more than $525 million over 10 years.
Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the partnership with Amazon Web Services and Cognizant Government Solutions, which will manage the state’s day-to-day IT operations. The move follows a comprehensive review of state government that began in 2022 and led to the consolidation of IT resources across state agencies.
“One of the most important strategic initiatives we’ve undertaken since was the consolidation and centralization of all IT resources across state government,” Reynolds said. “Now that it’s complete, we’re able to take a critical step forward to modernize the state’s legacy data systems, partnering with two of today’s leading technology providers.”
