Britain’s competition regulator is investigating whether Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s acquisition of Juniper Networks could raise competition concerns in the country. The Competition and Markets Authority has until August 14 to determine if the $14 billion deal should be subjected to further scrutiny. Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced in January that it intended to purchase Juniper in order to enhance its artificial intelligence offerings. The move comes as companies across various industries are investing heavily in AI technology. HPE aims to expand its networking business through this acquisition, with expectations to finalize the deal by the end of 2024 or early 2025. The company is collaborating with UK regulators to complete necessary reviews and obtain approval promptly.
Juniper, a US-based networking equipment manufacturer, has not yet commented on the investigation. The US market was closed on June 16 for a holiday. Radhika Anilkumar reported from Bengaluru, with additional reporting by Yamini Kalia. Savio D’Souza and Elaine Hardcastle edited the article.
