Google announced today that it will be introducing its Gemini AI model to teenage students and educators around the world. This new feature will be available through school accounts in over 100 countries, with security measures in place to ensure that inappropriate content is filtered out. Gemini will also verify answers and encourage students to fact-check information.

In addition to Gemini, Google is preparing to launch new add-ons for Classroom, AI tools for Read Along, and more for Chromebooks. Educators will soon have access to a customized version of LearnLM called “Coach” to help students improve their knowledge through quizzes and games. A safer Google Chat is also in the works, with features to restrict direct messages and spaces for students.

Read Along in Classrooms will be enhanced with AI capabilities, allowing educators to assign reading activities based on grade levels and phonics skills. This will provide insights into students’ reading accuracy, speed, and comprehension. Google plans to offer personalized AI-generated stories for educators and students to share.

Google Videos will introduce an AI-free generative variant for educators and students via Workspace for Education Plus later this year. Chromebooks and Workspace for Education will receive 16 new Classroom add-ons, including Kami, Quizizz, Screencastify, and more. New partners will also be added through the app licensing program.

Google is also bringing Gemini to Chromebooks and Chromebook Plus, with features like Help Me Write, Generative AI Wallpaper, and Magic Editor in Google Photos. The company hints at the upcoming Read Aloud feature for Chromebooks via the Chrome browser in Reading Mode.
