Europol, the US Department of Justice and the UK National Crime Agency have shut down a VPN service they claim was used primarily by criminals – and brag about sucking “personal information, logs and statistics” off the site.
The DoubleVPN site went dark yesterday after law enforcement agencies crashed their servers. A joint public statement this afternoon confirmed that the deactivation was genuine.
Under the leadership of the Dutch National Police, servers behind DoubleVPN have been seized by law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions.
Europol said the service has been “heavily promoted on Russian and English-language underground cyber crime forums” and offers two-, three- or even four-tier VPN services to its customers.
