Intel has introduced version 2.3.0 of their Open Image Denoise open-source library, which offers denoising filters for ray-traced rendered images. This update enhances quality and includes support for Intel’s upcoming Arc Battlemage graphics processing architecture and future processors with codenames like Arrow Lake and Moon Lake.

The core of the Intel Open Image Denoise library features deep learning-based denoising filters that can handle various samples per pixel (spp), ranging from 1 spp to almost fully converged. This library is compatible with a wide range of machines, from laptops to HPC systems, but it requires support for the hardware it runs on, prompting Intel to add compatibility for its upcoming products.

The new version of Open Image Denoise supports the upcoming Arc Battlemage discrete graphics processors, expected to launch in the latter half of the year, along with Intel’s Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake CPUs that will come with Arc integrated Xe graphics based on the xe2 microarchitecture.

Intel has plans to unveil its second-generation Arc Battlemage graphics processors in the fall, timed to coincide with the holiday sales season starting around Black Friday, with a launch expected by November. This schedule allows Intel to take advantage of the peak shopping period, particularly in the US, and gives board partners time to ramp up production and distribute products worldwide. While an earlier launch is possible, specific details have not been confirmed.

Intel is working on two new Battlemage GPUs, G10 and G21, targeting the mid-range and entry-level markets, respectively. G21 is currently undergoing prequalification testing for functionality, reliability, and performance, with successful results potentially leading to mass production. The status of G10 is uncertain, but indications suggest it may be further from completion.

The addition of Battlemage support to Intel’s software indicates progress in Battlemage development. This move aligns with Intel’s strategy to support upcoming hardware with their software updates to ensure compatibility and performance. By enhancing the Open Image Denoise library, Intel aims to provide users with improved denoising capabilities and support for their forthcoming product lineup.
