Intel’s Battlemage line of GPUs is getting a new contender in the form of the BMG-G31 discrete GPU die, as revealed on an Intel design tools website. While details about the G10 and G21 GPU dies have been leaked previously, the G31 die is now making its debut.

The technical specifications for VRTT interposer prototypes related to the BMG-G31 array were briefly available on the website before being taken down. These specifications are limited to individuals with the appropriate credentials.

The G31 die is likely to be an entry-level option for Intel’s Battlemage GPUs, which cover gaming, mobile, and workstation variants. With 32 Xe2 cores potentially housed in the G31 silicon, Intel seems to be targeting the entry-level and mid-range markets with all three Battlemage dies.

There is speculation about whether Intel will compete in the high-end gaming GPU market, with uncertainty surrounding their intentions to rival next-gen GPUs like the RTX 5090. However, the emergence of the G31 chip adds an interesting twist to the Battlemage saga.

The Battlemage GPUs, including the G10, G21, and G31, are expected to launch later this year or in early 2025. The G10 and G21 chips are currently in the prequalification phase, undergoing functionality and reliability testing. The same process applies to the G31 chip.

Significant modifications have been made to the architecture of the Battlemage GPUs compared to Arc Alchemist. In its iGPU form, Battlemage offers a 1.5x performance boost over Meteor Lake’s Arc Alchemist chips, thanks to next-generation Xe2 cores, larger XMX AI engines, improved vector engines, enhanced ray tracing capabilities, and expanded caches.
