Intel to Release Lunar Lake Processors in Third Quarter of 2024

Spread the love

Intel’s upcoming client processors, codenamed Lunar Lake, are set to power over 80 new laptop designs from more than 20 OEMs starting in the third quarter of 2024, just in time for the holiday season. These processors will offer AI performance for Copilot+ PCs on a global scale, with future updates bringing features like Recall to Lunar Lake-equipped devices.

Intel plans to ship more than 40 million AI PC processors this year, building on the success of their Core Ultra processors. The addition of Lunar Lake will provide breakthrough power efficiency, reliable x86 architecture support, and a comprehensive software enablement portfolio across CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs. This will result in the most competitive hardware and software offering in Intel’s history, according to Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Intel’s executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group.

An AI PC consists of a CPU, GPU, and NPU, each with AI acceleration capabilities. An NPU is a specialized accelerator that handles AI and machine learning tasks directly on the PC, rather than relying on cloud processing. As the need for automation and optimization grows, AI-enabled PCs are becoming increasingly important.

Lunar Lake is expected to be a groundbreaking mobile processor for AI PCs, offering over 3 times the AI performance compared to its predecessor. With more than 40 tera NPU operations per second (TOPS), these processors will enable Copilot+ experiences on devices. Additionally, Lunar Lake will feature over 60 TOPS GPUs, delivering more than 100 platform TOPS for enhanced performance.

Overall, Intel’s Lunar Lake processors are poised to revolutionize the AI PC market, providing users with advanced capabilities and accelerating the adoption of AI technologies in PCs. With increased power efficiency, performance, and software support, Lunar Lake aims to deliver a superior computing experience for consumers and businesses alike.
