Intel showcases F1 24 running smoothly at high resolution on Lunar Lake’s Xe2 GPU, featuring ray tracing and XeSS technology, while discussing frame generation and architectural improvements.

Intel unveiled its Xe2 GPU architecture at F1 24 during its Tech Tour and discussed XeSS, Frame Gen, and architectural improvements in Battlemage. The company is moving beyond frameshifting as a pixel enhancement technique, showcasing the Xe2 GPU in action with XeSS and Ray Tracing during the F1 24 demo on Lunar Lake.

The F1 24 demo ran on a Lunar Lake CPU with the Xe2 GPU, operating within a 17W power budget. Running at Full High Definition (FHD) with XeSS performance modes and ray-traced shadows enabled, the game delivered a consistent 60 FPS according to Intel. Another comparison demo by PCWorld highlighted the power efficiency and improved performance of Lunar Lake chips compared to AMD.

Additionally, Intel provided insights into Alchemist, Battlemage, and future developments in pixel/frame generation. The Xe2 GPUs are designed to offer new graphics experiences, catering to both discrete and integrated designs. The company acknowledged the challenges faced with Alchemist and highlighted the improvements in Battlemage, emphasizing increased compatibility and support for the latest APIs.

Intel also introduced a new approach to pixel generation, moving beyond frame generation techniques like XeSS Frame Gen. The company hinted at a GenAI approach for pixel generation, aiming for a transformative experience in graphics.

While the GenAI approach may not be incorporated into the Xe2 or Battlemage GPUs, it represents a potential future direction for Intel’s graphics architecture. If the promises about Xe2 GPUs hold true, Intel could offer mainstream gamers a solid performance with a robust ecosystem of software and drivers for running the latest games seamlessly. Overall, Intel’s advancements in graphics technologies are eagerly anticipated for the future.
