Intel set to launch Lunar Lake processors for AI-enabled laptops in the third quarter of 2024.

Intel has announced that its next series of processors, codenamed Lunar Lake, will be launched in time for the 2024 holiday season. These processors will power more than 80 laptop models across 20 OEM partners and will be used in the Copilot+ PCs recently introduced by Intel.

The Lunar Lake processors are expected to provide a significant increase in AI performance compared to the previous generation, supporting over 40 tera NPU operations per second. This will allow for a more immersive and efficient user experience, especially in conjunction with Microsoft’s Copilot+ technology. Additionally, the processors will feature more than 60 TOPS GPUs, bringing the total processing power to 100 TOPS.

To ensure that consumers have access to the necessary tools to take advantage of the advanced AI capabilities of these processors, Intel is collaborating with over 100 independent software vendors. This collaboration aims to enhance the software ecosystem for AI PCs, providing applications for personal assistants, content creation, gaming, security, and more.

Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group, highlighted the groundbreaking power efficiency and comprehensive software enablement portfolio of the Lunar Lake processors and Copilot+ PCs. She emphasized that this combination will offer the most competitive hardware and software offering in Intel’s history.

AI PCs, powered by Lunar Lake processors, represent a new class of devices tailored for the AI era. These PCs feature neural processing units (NPUs) in addition to traditional CPU and GPU components, enabling advanced machine learning tasks. The on-device AI capabilities provided by NPUs enhance security and eliminate the need for cloud-based services for AI processing tasks.

Overall, Intel’s introduction of Lunar Lake processors and Copilot+ PCs signifies a significant advancement in AI computing technology, aiming to deliver a more efficient and immersive user experience. Through collaborations with software vendors and the integration of cutting-edge AI hardware, Intel is positioning itself as a leader in the AI PC market.
