Intel is reportedly gearing up to release Arrow Lake-H processors meant for high-performance gaming laptops, based on the Arrow Lake-S silicon designed for desktop computers. These processors could have up to 24 cores, a recent tweet by @InstLatX64 revealed. This move wouldn’t be unprecedented, as Intel and its partners have previously used desktop silicon in laptops.

A motherboard labeled ‘Intel Corporation Arrow Lake Client Platform/ARL-S BGA SODIMM 2DPC Board’ is currently being tested by Intel. This board could be used to test upcoming ARL-S BGA processors for laptops, or possibly even desktop processors packaged in BGA packaging. The platform was built in early 2024, indicating that it may be nearing its final stages of development, pending Intel’s decision on whether to proceed with its launch.

While Arrow Lake-H processors for laptops are expected to have up to 16 cores, Arrow Lake-S CPUs for desktops could feature up to 24 cores, without simultaneous multiple threads. This difference caters to the varying needs of different devices, with high-end gaming laptops and professional applications potentially benefiting from the higher core count offered by Arrow Lake-S processors. These high-performance processors are likely to have a TDP of 45W or 55W, but actual power limits may be adjusted to support high clock speeds.

The Arrow Lake-H/HX processors are anticipated to utilize Arrow Lake-S multichiplet silicon, which includes eight performance cores and 16 efficiency cores, along with a large cache memory and an integrated GPU.
