Intel has announced an expanded process roadmap and its ambition to become the No. 2 foundry by 2030. The company hosted the Intel Foundry event with notable speakers such as U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Arm CEO Rene Haas. The key highlights of the news include the launch of Intel Foundry as the world’s first systems foundry for the AI era, introducing the new Intel 14A process technology, specialized node evolutions, and Intel Foundry Advanced System Assembly and Test (ASAT) capabilities. Additionally, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that Microsoft has chosen a chip design to be produced on the Intel 18A process.

Intel emphasized its commitment to sustainability and system optimization in the AI era. The company showcased its new process technology roadmap, including Intel 14A, specialized node evolutions, and ASAT offerings. Intel aims to regain process leadership with the Intel 18A in 2025. The roadmap includes advancements in node technologies such as Intel 3-T with through-silicon vias and new 12-nanometer nodes developed through partnerships with other companies like UMC.

Intel also announced collaborations with IP and EDA vendors like Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens, and Ansys to enable customers to accelerate chip designs on Intel’s advanced packaging technologies. The company highlighted its design wins across various foundry process generations and ASAT capabilities, estimating a lifetime deal value exceeding $15 billion.

Furthermore, Intel unveiled an initiative to collaborate with Arm to provide foundry services for Arm-based SoCs, supporting startups with essential IP and manufacturing assistance. The company’s systems foundry approach offers full-stack optimization and continuous technology improvements to empower customers to innovate across the entire system.

In terms of sustainability, Intel aims to become the industry’s most sustainable foundry by achieving 100% renewable electricity worldwide, net-positive water, and zero waste to landfills by 2030. The company also reiterated its commitment to achieving net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 2040 and net-zero upstream Scope 3 emissions by 2050.

Intel concluded with forward-looking statements detailing its business plans, roadmap, AI strategy, and sustainability goals. The company emphasized the risks associated with technological advancements, market competition, geopolitical tensions, cybersecurity threats, and environmental regulations.
