Hardware Times detailed their experience with Core i9-13900K chips, noting multiple instances of system crashes and instability, even after replacements. The recent announcement from Intel revealed a bug in the Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost algorithm, which has been fixed. However, Intel acknowledges that this bug is not the sole cause of the instability issue.

Testing by Hardware Times confirmed that a new BIOS update reduced crashes but did not eliminate them entirely. The Core i9-13900KF chip underperformed before crashing, with significant drops in CPU power, usage, and efficiency cores. Stability issues primarily affect Core i9-14900K and Core i9-13900K chips, with reports of crashes during gameplay and increased customer returns.

For users of high-end Raptor Lake processors, options are limited to addressing the issue. Limiting frame rates, gaming at higher resolutions, and underclocking or undervolting the processor are potential solutions. Intel’s recommendation to use the Baseline Profile remains the safest option for now.
