We work closely with partners from the semiconductor design and foundry sectors as well as EDA (Electronic Design Automation) providers to develop finely tuned solutions based on Azure High Performance Computing (HPC), Internet of Things (IoT) and Edge- Infrastructures are running Azure Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning to accelerate silicon Development cycle.
These capabilities also enable US government customers to ensure compliance with stringent defense and critical infrastructure supply chain requirements. Today we announce our collaboration with the Department of Defense (DoD) to strengthen the US microelectronics supply chain through our work on the EU Rapid Assured Microelectronics Prototypes (RAMP) with Advanced Commercial Capabilities Project. This work expands our collaboration with the commercial industry ecosystem and leverages Azure to provide a secure, scalable platform for the design, manufacture, and supply chain management of microelectronics.
RAMP is an important initiative to secure the US domestic supply chain for components that are used in the defense industry and other mission-critical systems that require the greatest possible protection against tampering. These components are fundamental to the security of new and emerging technologies in many areas, including artificial intelligence, 5G communications, and quantum computing.
Microsoft has worked with leading companies to demonstrate the benefits of innovative approaches to a more agile, secure, and collaborative methodology for silicon development and supply chain security. Silicon customers and partners have chosen Microsoft because of our deep commitment to the industry and Azure’s ability to help transform silicon design and manufacture. Microsoft has shown that large silicon design workloads can be efficiently run on scalable, production-ready EDA architectures that are tailored to the broad spectrum of services and capabilities offered by Azure. Microsoft has worked closely with silicon tooling providers to optimize and, in some cases, revise the tools for Azure. EDA tool providers have integrated the Azure Artificial Intelligence and Azure Machine Learning technologies into the next generation of products. Microsoft is also closely associated with foundry partners. Microsoft announced that earlier this year joint innovation laboratory with TMSC Developing and integrating innovative cloud and EDA solutions as well as supporting the semiconductor industry with performance and cost efficiency to reduce time to market for their silicon product innovations.
Microsoft leads a coalition of industry leaders focused on developing features to support RAMP, including Applied Materials, Inc., BAE Systems, Battelle Memorial Institute, Cadence Design Systems, GlobalFoundries, Intel Corporation, Nimbis Services, Inc., Northrop Grumman, Siemens EDA, Synopsys, Inc., and Zero ASIC Corporation. The strength of this partnership connects the commercial and government ecosystems and enables DoD to leverage the best available microelectronics development capabilities. Our approach combines unique expertise and experience that are critical to scaling a solution for a confidential and secure cloud-accessible design environment (CASCADE) such as a secure, scalable, collaborative design and manufacturing environment for silicon and microelectronics on Azure goals of RAMP . The proposed technology solution will demonstrate the ability to leverage manufacturing knowledge to ensure confidentiality and integrity for Defense Industrial Base (DIB) designs are effectively implemented and maintained during the transformations that occur in the release to the manufacturing process.
The RAMP solution is hosted in Azure government Regions to ensure compliance with DoD supply chain requirements.
