In Guernsey the law is to be tightened to combat AI deepfake porn

A proposed law change could make it illegal in Guernsey to use artificial intelligence (AI) to produce sexual images without consent.

The States of Guernsey said the Home Affairs Committee would seek to address nine areas through amendments to the Sexual Offenses Act 2020.

One of the proposed changes is to use AI to create false sexual images and videos – so-called deepfakes – without consent.

Det Insp Thomas Lowe said: “Our main aim is always to protect victims and ensure offenders are brought to justice and I hope that these new changes, if passed, will allow us to do this more effectively.”

Seven of the areas to be addressed relate to sexual images and two would seek to address gaps identified since the law was introduced.

Creating or taking intimate images without consent would also be a criminal offense, as would sharing these images.
