Confirm what The edge reported in April, Ikea has a new Symonisk product “Picture frames with Wi-Fi speakers” listed on its website this evening. The device, which is listed for $ 199, hasn’t been announced yet – but it’s one of two new collaborations between Ikea and Sonos to be released in the near future.
According to the likely removed website, the Symfonisk picture frame is 22 inches high, 16 inches wide and 2 inches deep. According to Ikea, customers can choose between “different interchangeable fronts” and the frame is offered in either black or white. To like the two previous Symfonisk products, the picture frame is designed to blend in with your home decor and not stand out as an obvious technical gadget.
“You can hang it on the wall as an eye-catcher, combine it with your other pictures on a wall, place it on the floor or lean against a wall,” says the Ikea website about the picture frame. Despite the name “picture frame”, it seems that you cannot put your own photos in this frame; it’s more of a work of art. The front material is likely specifically designed to let sound through.
The Ikea website confirms that the Symfonisk picture frame supports Apple’s AirPlay 2, enables stereo pairing, and how previous Symfonisk products can be controlled via the Sonos app. It also has this quote from Sonos Product Manager Sara Morris: “By working with the designers, we were able to keep the thin edge of the picture frame while concealing a deeper acoustic volume behind it. Together with a waveguide, we can generate a large, room-filling sound from a thin loudspeaker. ”
The other collaborative effort by Ikea and Sonos’ Symfonisk 2021 will be a redesigned table lamp speaker. June 14th is the last rumored date on which the two companies will officially announce both products – even if Ikea was a little ahead this evening.
