Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO), a global leader in fertilizer manufacturing, has launched India’s largest smart farming project on the cloud, aimed at improving the productivity, efficiency, and profitability of farmers. The project, known as IFFCO Kisan Uday, runs on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and includes a mobile application that allows farmers to easily book, view, and manage nanofertilizer sprays using drones.

IFFCO, founded in 1967, is one of the world’s largest cooperatives, empowering 55 million farmers through 36,000 member cooperatives. The decision to select OCI for the project was made after a successful pilot, as OCI offers high performance, scalability, and seamless integration with various third-party applications, supporting the IFFCO Kisan Drone project. This initiative aims to improve agricultural productivity through drone technology, enabling farmers to make informed decisions based on real-time data collected by 2,500 IFFCO Kisan Drones.

AK Gupta, IT Director and Board Member at IFFCO, emphasized the organization’s commitment to transforming the lives of farmers and contributing to India’s economic development through innovative technologies like the IFFCO Kisan Drone project. OCI plays a crucial role in enabling IFFCO to leverage technology for sustainable agriculture, with plans for further collaboration to handle the expected increase in data volume in the future.

Using OCI Media Stream and OCI Media Streams, IFFCO processes complex video content captured by the drones, including essential data like location coordinates, spray area, battery status, and fertilizer consumption. The data is stored in OCI after transcoding, transcribing, and integration, with the flexibility of OCI Compute Virtual Machines to scale computing capacity as needed.

Shailender Kumar, Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager at Oracle India and NetSuite JAPAC, highlighted the significant transformation occurring in the Indian agriculture market as farmers embrace new technologies to enhance productivity and profitability. With OCI, IFFCO can revolutionize agricultural practices and bring positive changes to rural communities in India. The collaboration between IFFCO and Oracle aims to create a brighter and more prosperous future for Indian farmers through innovative solutions and advanced technology.
