Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd. (IFFCO) has opted for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to power its mobile application for farmers named IFFCO Kisan Uday. This cloud-native app allows farmers to easily book, view, and manage IFFCO nanofertilizer sprays carried out by drones. Following a successful pilot program, IFFCO chose OCI due to its performance, scalability, and seamless integration capabilities with various third-party applications and workflows crucial for the IFFCO Kisan Drone project. The project aims to enhance agricultural productivity through drone technology, providing farmers with real-time data via the IFFCO Kisan Uday mobile app to fine-tune their farming techniques. The data is gathered by 2,500 IFFCO Kisan Drones, as per an official statement.
AK Gupta, the IT Director and Board Member at IFFCO, highlighted the significance of OCI in enabling them to harness technology for sustainable agriculture, expressing eagerness to further enhance their partnership. He emphasized OCI as the sole platform capable of delivering the required scale and performance needed to manage the anticipated 100-fold increase in data inflow in the coming months. IFFCO leverages OCI Media Flow and OCI Media Streams to handle intricate video content recorded by Kisan Drones, encompassing details such as longitude, latitude, nanofertilizer area coverage, flow rate, battery status, altitude, and fertilizer usage. Moreover, OCI Media Streams ensures data transcoding, transcription, and integration stored on the platform. With OCI Compute Virtual Machines, IFFCO can flexibly adjust computing resources to accommodate the escalating data volume captured by drones.
Shailender Kumar, the Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager at Oracle India, pointed out the ongoing significant transformation within the Indian agriculture sector, with farmers swiftly embracing new technologies to elevate productivity and profitability. Kumar emphasized the potential for OCI to revolutionize agricultural methodologies and drive positive developments in rural communities nationwide.
In conclusion, IFFCO’s adoption of OCI for its innovative drone-based fertilization project signifies a pioneering step towards advanced agricultural practices harnessing cutting-edge technology to optimize farming outcomes.OCI’s robust infrastructure and capabilities enable IFFCO to efficiently manage and process vast amounts of data generated by Kisan Drones, facilitating informed decision-making and enhancing agricultural efficiency in India. The collaboration between IFFCO and Oracle promises to bring about sustainable agricultural practices and drive positive changes in the lives of Indian farmers.
