Officials say the partnership aims to minimize the cost of developing and building nuclear reactors in the United States.

BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to enhance U.S. nuclear energy research and development through Artificial Intelligence (AI).

NVIDIA, founded in 1999, designs and manufactures specialized computer chips, primarily Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), which power everything from PC gaming and professional visualization to data centers, AI and autonomous vehicles.

INL and NVIDIA say their collaboration is part of the Trump Administration’s “Genesis Mission,” a proclaimed “coordinated national effort to unleash a new age of AI‑accelerated innovation and discovery that can solve the most challenging problems of this century.”

The national initiative seeks to enhance artificial intelligence and establish data centers throughout the United States, while also supporting the expansion of the country’s nuclear energy facilities in a mutually beneficial relationship.

INL and NVIDIA codenamed their development “Prometheus” and say it will utilize AI to design, license, manufacture, construct, and operate nuclear reactors. They say the approach could double deployment speed and lower operational costs…
