IBM’s dedication to education: Supporting the empowerment of women and girls in Asia-Pacific

IBM is committed to training 1 million women in the Asia-Pacific region over five years. Nearly 650,000 women and girls have already been empowered through education, skills development, and career opportunities in countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Partnerships with organizations like ReBit, the Malaysian Penang State Education Department, and the Indonesian Ministry of Education have enabled IBM to provide AI and cybersecurity education to underrepresented communities.

Stories of individuals like Ashley Pojol from the Philippines, Shilpi Pachauri from India, and Heena Aggarwal highlight the transformative impact of IBM’s initiatives. These women have overcome challenges and gained valuable skills through IBM SkillsBuild, leading to successful careers in technology. The goal is to inspire and equip the next generation for global advancement, offering unique opportunities for social and economic growth. IBM’s commitment to empowering women aligns with their global goal of training 30 million people by 2030, with over 11.5 million students already trained.

The importance of providing opportunities for women in technology cannot be overstated. When women are given the chance to succeed, entire societies benefit. IBM’s efforts to promote education and training for women in the Asia-Pacific region demonstrate the potential for positive change through strategic partnerships and investment in education.
