IBM CEO Arvind Krishna emphasized the transformative potential of hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing at the annual IBM Think 2024 event. He discussed how these technologies are maturing and can greatly enhance business operations. Krishna also introduced the IBM Technology Atlas, a framework that outlines the evolution of these technologies and their impact on information technology and business.

Krishna likened AI to fundamental technologies like the steam engine, electricity, or the Internet, predicting that it will soon be integrated into various aspects of society. He estimated that AI could contribute up to $4 trillion to annual GDP productivity by 2030. IBM, a leader in AI, acknowledged the importance of moving from experimenting with AI to large-scale implementation to fully realize its benefits.

In a move to promote open source, IBM decided to release its Granite models, a series of large language models designed for specific tasks ranging from 3 billion to 34 billion parameters. These models, licensed under Apache, provide high performance while allowing companies to keep domain-specific data private. IBM showcased examples of successful AI applications, such as Broadridge experiencing improved programmer productivity and a European telecommunications provider seeing increased customer satisfaction and reduced query resolution times with Watson X.

IBM’s own Human Resources Center now automates 95% of queries through AI. Krishna announced that Watson X would soon integrate with various platforms like OpenShift, Adobe Experience Platform, AWS SageMaker, and Microsoft Azure to streamline the implementation of AI in different cloud environments and enterprise applications. Additionally, IBM partnered with Saudi Arabia’s National Innovation Center to develop an Arabic language model, widening Watson’s reach in the global market.

The event highlighted the importance of embracing hybrid cloud, AI, and quantum computing as essential tools for the future of business. Krishna’s keynote address stressed the significant advancements in these technologies and their potential to drive innovation and efficiency across industries. The event showcased IBM’s commitment to open source initiatives, collaboration with partners, and ongoing efforts to expand the application of AI in diverse settings.

Overall, IBM Think 2024 highlighted the increasing importance of AI and hybrid cloud solutions in driving digital transformation and unlocking new opportunities for businesses worldwide. As these technologies continue to evolve, organizations will need to adapt and embrace them to stay competitive in the rapidly changing digital landscape.
