IBM has purchased SiXworks, a UK-based consultancy specializing in digital transformation for the UK defence sector. SiXworks, founded in 2017 and based in Farnborough, England, is a partner of the UK Ministry of Defence. The consultancy does not disclose its number of employees or revenue.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed by IBM. However, the acquisition will provide IBM Consulting with additional technical skills in defence digital, cyber, and cloud solutions, allowing the company to better serve clients in the UK defence sector. This move follows IBM’s acquisition of Octo to become the digital transformation partner for various US federal government agencies.

By acquiring SiXworks, IBM will benefit from the consultancy’s complementary capabilities in cybersecurity, data, and AI, enhancing IBM’s existing offerings in the UK market. In 2023, IBM generated $18.492 billion in revenue from the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, with UK sales revenue increasing by 0.7 percent. Overall, IBM’s total revenue for the year was $61.86 billion.

This acquisition represents a strategic move by IBM to strengthen its position in the UK defence sector by expanding its technical expertise and capabilities.IBM continues to grow its presence in key markets and enhance its offerings to meet the evolving needs of clients in the digital transformation space.
