IBM has acquired StreamSets and webMethods from Software AG for approximately €2.13 billion ($2.3 billion). The deal, announced late last year, has gained regulatory approval and adds data ingestion capabilities to IBM’s WatsonX AI platform and integration platform as a service (iPaaS) capabilities to its automation solutions. IBM now offers one of the most comprehensive data and application integration platforms in the industry. StreamSets and webMethods currently serve over 1,500 enterprises worldwide and provide integration technologies for next-generation AI applications. The global integration software market is expected to exceed $18 billion by 2027.

Software AG, the second-largest enterprise software provider in Germany, acquired US-based StreamSets in March 2022 before selling 85 percent of its share capital to Private equity group Silver Lake for 2.6 billion euros. StreamSets brings cloud-based data ingestion to the Watsonx platform and enables the design of data streaming pipelines and support data observability capabilities. webMethods helps untangle systems, applications, and data silos within enterprise environments.

StreamSets will be integrated with data management tools on the Watsonx platform and available on major hyperscalers such as Google Cloud Platform, Azure, AWS, and various on-premises cloud computing engines. IBM plans to extend webMethods iPaaS to support its integration products for hybrid integration across multiple clouds. Dinesh Nirmal, Senior Vice President, Products, IBM Software Division, commented on the acquisition’s importance in helping clients manage data complexity and application growth.

Software AG CEO Sanjay Brahmawar views the deal as a validation of its vision for AI-enabled enterprise integration platforms. He sees the opportunity for collaboration with IBM to deliver the best products and services to customers. Both companies are committed to contributing to the success of their clients through innovative solutions. The acquisition of StreamSets and webMethods positions IBM as a leader in data and application integration, meeting the growing demands of AI applications in hybrid cloud environments.

In conclusion, IBM’s acquisition of StreamSets and webMethods from Software AG enhances its capabilities in data ingestion and integration, positioning it as a leader in the industry. StreamSets provides cloud-based data ingestion, while webMethods untangles complex systems and silos within enterprises. The integration of these technologies with IBM’s platforms enables clients to manage data complexity, support application growth, and drive innovation. The collaboration between IBM and Software AG demonstrates their commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions to customers and contributing to their success in the evolving digital landscape.
