IBM partners with Gujarat government to set up AI hub in GIFT City for promoting AI innovation and cooperation



American technology company IBM and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat have joined forces to establish an AI Cluster in Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City. The collaboration, marked by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to utilize IBM’s Watsonx platform to facilitate innovation and collaboration among financial institutions in GIFT City. Through this partnership, local financial institutions will have access to various AI resources, including an AI Sandbox for experimentation and customization of AI models, proof-of-concept support for developing tailored AI solutions, and specialized training programs to enhance AI literacy among professionals.

Watsonx, IBM’s cloud-based commercial generative AI and data science platform, offers a suite of tools such as a studio, data warehouse, and governance toolkit, as well as support for large language models like IBM’s Granite. The platform will enable financial institutions in GIFT City to harness advanced AI capabilities to drive digital transformation in the region and enhance customer experiences. IBM will provide software technologies and platforms in a secure cloud environment to allow for the customization and refinement of AI models, as well as develop a digital assistant-based solution for onboarding and integrating these models for financial institutions.

Leadership figures from both IBM and the Government of Gujarat have expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration and the potential impact of AI on the state’s digital transformation efforts. Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, highlighted the importance of adopting AI technologies to stay competitive in today’s business landscape, while Sandip Patel, CEO of IBM India and South Asia, emphasized the strategic value of leveraging AI for enhanced productivity, innovation, and customer experience.

In addition to providing AI technologies and solutions, IBM has committed to implementing an AI curriculum for schools and colleges in Gujarat, aligning with the company’s global initiative to train millions of individuals in AI by 2030. The partnership between IBM and the Government of Gujarat signifies a significant step towards accelerating the state’s digital transformation journey and positioning Gujarat as a key player in the adoption of AI technologies in the financial sector.
