IBM and the All England Lawn Tennis Club have collaborated to introduce a new feature for the Wimbledon Digital experience called ‘Catch Me Up’. This feature utilizes match data with GenAI from Watson to keep fans updated on leading players’ progress throughout the Championship. ‘Catch Me Up’ will provide pre- and post-match player cards with AI-generated player stories and analytics on Wimbledon’s website and app, taking into account user preferences, location, and myWimbledon profile, starting with their favorite players. Pre-match content will include recent performance analysis and win predictions, while post-match content will feature key statistics and highlights.
Powered by IBM’s Granite LLM and Watsonx platform, ‘Catch Me Up’ aims to help Wimbledon cater to both new and existing tennis fans worldwide by offering selected coverage of every match. The use of GenAI this year will expand coverage to include a wider range of matches, including wheelchair events, in order to appeal to Wimbledon’s diverse international audience. This will be integrated into a redesigned digital match center called IBM Slamtracker, available on the Wimbledon app and website.
IBM’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, Jonathan Adashek, highlighted the significance of the new feature, emphasizing how generative AI can create compelling storytelling at scale. He noted the longstanding partnership between IBM and Wimbledon in developing innovations that enhance fans’ connection to the on-court action. Adashek also mentioned IBM’s commitment to leveraging GenAI and other technologies from the Watsonx platform to meet the unique needs of customers across various industries.
Chris Clements, digital product leader at the All England Club, expressed the organization’s dedication to delivering top-quality Wimbledon experiences, both in-person and digitally. GenAI enables them to offer personalized content to fans worldwide, ensuring a more engaging experience. Clements confirmed that the new ‘Catch Me Up’ feature for this year’s Championship will make it easier for fans to stay updated on key stories as they unfold throughout the tournament.
