IBM has appointed James Hunter as Field CTO for Application Development, DevSecOps and AI Software Engineering.
The appointment to the newly-created role comes at a time when firms are grappling with the growing impact of artificial intelligence on how software and complex engineered products are designed, built, tested and operated, said IBM.
A key element of Hunter’s role will be working with clients to understand the changes required to assess where new technologies, including AI coding assistants, agentic development tools and AI-enabled software engineering can have the most impact, while also facing pressure to modernise established applications, improve engineering productivity and strengthen governance.
Hunter believes the most important shift is not simply that AI can help developers write code faster, but that AI is beginning to take a more active role throughout the engineering lifecycle.
