IBM, Masters merge AI, history for latest tech enhancement

The Masters has always leaned into its rich history through storytelling. And seemingly every year the tournament introduces a new feature that makes golf fans go wild with anticipation. This year the tournament, in partnership with IBM, merged those two characteristics with a new AI search tool on its app and website.

IBM only today is officially announcing the Masters Vault Search via its watsonx, but golf fans and media stumbled on the new feature last week as it was soft launched across the Masters’ digital platforms. From the search function, a user can look for any shot by any player from any Masters final round dating back to 1968, and within seconds a video of that shot pops up.

For example, searching “Nicklaus 1986 17” almost instantaneously returns Jack Nicklaus’ famed birdie on the 17th hole in 1986 when he won his sixth and final green jacket.
