IBM joins hands with Gujarat government to set up AI cluster in GIFT city



A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between financial institutions in GIFT City and IBM to provide access to AI Sandbox, proof of concepts, AI literacy programs, and digital assistant solutions. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel expressed that this agreement will position Gujarat as a leader in embracing AI and digital transformation.

IBM will offer software technologies and platforms in a cloud environment to enable customization and optimization of AI models in various languages within a sandbox environment for financial institutions in GIFT City. Additionally, IBM plans to develop a digital assistant-based solution to streamline the onboarding and integration of these customized language models.

Sandip Patel, general manager of IBM India and South Asia, highlighted the importance of using AI in business to enhance productivity, innovation, and customer experience. He emphasized that this collaboration with the Government of Gujarat aims to accelerate the state’s digital transformation and provide easy access to AI solutions for financial institutions in GIFT City.

IBM’s commitment includes developing an AI curriculum for schools and colleges in Gujarat to train 2 million students in AI by 2026 and assist in training 30 million people by 2030. Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, noted that the MoUs are comprehensive and aim to promote the adoption of AI in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to make futuristic technology more accessible to the public.

The collaboration also involves literacy programs and certifications for state professionals to enhance their skills and prepare them for the AI-driven economy of the future. This initiative reflects a concerted effort to advance AI adoption and skill development in Gujarat.
