IBM Consulting recently held its second Microsoft hackathon, with an increase in participants and teams compared to the previous year. The event aimed to explore the potential of Generative AI and Microsoft Copilot platform, bringing together 250 teams from various industries to create innovative solutions over eight weeks. The winning solutions, developed by Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Toyota Motor Europe, addressed real-world challenges in banking and car rental industries, showcasing the power of AI technology to streamline processes and enhance customer experiences.

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s winning solution focused on improving document processing time and loan processes through the use of an integrated digital assistant powered by AI. By leveraging Copilot and automation-based APIs, the team was able to significantly reduce time spent on loan execution and document exchange processes, demonstrating the impact of AI on efficiency and productivity in the banking sector.

Toyota Motor Europe’s winning solution, IntelliRent, revolutionized the car rental experience with an intelligent bot that enables personalized and conversational bookings. By interacting directly with customers 24/7, the AI-enabled digital assistant provides timely promotions, real-time bookings, and localized support to enhance customer satisfaction and streamline the rental process.

In addition to the hackathon, IBM Consulting introduced the IBM Copilot Landing Strip offering, which allows enterprises to create and deploy custom copilots with generative AI capabilities to drive efficiencies and improve productivity within organizations. The Copilot Runway Adoption Framework, Copilot Catalyst, and Pre-Built Custom Pilots offer strategic paths for businesses to integrate AI solutions and realize additional value across their operations.

Moving forward, IBM Consulting and Microsoft are collaborating to identify new business use cases, evaluate strategic paths for the IBM Copilot Runway offering, and support clients in scaling generative AI-based solutions to drive value realization and efficiency. A webcast scheduled for July 11th will feature discussions with hackathon winners to explore their use cases, development processes, and resulting solutions, providing insights into the transformative power of AI technology in driving innovation and digital transformation in various industries.
