IBM Consulting acquires technology modernization services

IBM has announced plans to acquire OneAdvanced’s application modernization capabilities in a move to enhance its hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence strategy. OneAdvanced, founded in 2008, is a UK-based business software and services provider with a strong global presence. By acquiring OneAdvanced, IBM aims to support customers’ mainframe application modernization journeys through its IBM Consulting arm, now renamed IBM ModernSystems. The acquisition is part of IBM’s larger effort to help businesses quickly transform and keep up with competition, with a focus on mainframe systems as crucial components of hybrid cloud strategies.

With a recent IBM Institute for Business Value survey revealing that executives see mainframe systems as vital for hybrid cloud strategies, IBM Consulting is looking to leverage OneAdvanced’s expertise to help clients navigate digital transformation processes. The team joining IBM Consulting brings over 30 years of experience and industry knowledge, especially in sectors like financial services, insurance, automotive, travel, government, utilities, and media. The acquisition will also support IBM’s AI services, particularly enhancing Watsonx Code Assistant for Z to offer comprehensive modernization options for mainframe applications.

By integrating OneAdvanced’s application modernization capabilities and Watsonx Code Assistant for Z, IBM Consulting aims to streamline the application developer lifecycle, from discovery to code refactoring and conversion. The goal is to help applications better integrate with clients’ hybrid cloud architectures, ultimately driving value for businesses. Since Arvind Krishna took over as CEO in April 2020, IBM has been actively expanding its portfolio through strategic acquisitions, with a focus on strengthening its hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Overall, IBM’s acquisition of OneAdvanced reflects its commitment to supporting clients in adapting to new technologies and driving business transformations. The move also aligns with IBM’s broader strategy of leveraging AI and cloud services to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of enterprise clients.
