IBM Blog: Take control of your observability log and event data routing

IBM Cloud has launched IBM Cloud Logs to provide an observability solution for infrastructure and application performance management. This platform allows users to route observability log and event data to the service or a preferred destination location. The IBM Cloud Logs Routing feature complements this solution by providing routing capabilities for service platforms and application logs. Together with the activity tracker in IBM Cloud, users have control over where their data is routed.

The IBM Observability Routers offer flexibility and control for routing logs, metrics, and events. Users define routes and targets to send data to observability instances for valuable insights. The platform configuration capability is available in the observability navigation section on IBM Cloud. These routers are designed to meet the needs of simple or sophisticated routing requirements across multiple regions or accounts.

The IBM Logging Agent has been introduced to send application logs to observability instances. Fully IAM enabled, the agent allows for end-to-end IAM control of the environment. Log data is sent through the Log Routing service, enabling users to add service-side rules to route data to desired destinations.

Routing record configurations can be done through the IBM Cloud Console, APIs, or helm charts when deploying configurations in code. This new capability is available in all IBM Cloud data centers known as MZR locations. Activity Tracker Event Routing has been updated to allow users to define routing rules within the IBM Cloud Console, with IBM Cloud Logs as a new available destination.

The Activity Tracker event routing UI enables users to create rules and routes within their cloud account, and encode the configuration with the API interface for Activity Tracker event routing. By consolidating logs and events into one Cloud Logs instance, users can enhance observability insights and quickly debug issues.

IBM Cloud continues to expand its observability portfolio to meet user needs for platform integration and compliance. Routing capabilities and Activity Tracker Event Routing capabilities are available today, and users can access them through the Observability navigation section on the IBM Cloud platform.

Overall, IBM Cloud Logs and Routing offer flexible and efficient observability solutions for managing infrastructure and application performance data, ensuring compliance, and optimizing cost. The platform provides users with control over routing their observability data to meet their specific needs and achieve valuable insights for improving operations.
