IBM and Gujarat Government Collaborate to Set Up AI Cluster in GIFT City

On Saturday, the Department of Science and Technology in Gujarat signed an MoU with IBM to establish an AI cluster at GIFT City. This partnership will provide financial institutions at GIFT City access to AI Sandbox, proof of concept assistance, AI literacy programs, and digital assistant solutions.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that it would help Gujarat lead in AI adoption and digital transformation. IBM will offer software technologies and platforms in a cloud environment to enable financial institutions to customize and fine-tune AI models in different languages. They will also work on a digital assistant-based solution to facilitate onboarding and integration of these models for financial institutions.

Sandip Patel, CEO of IBM India and South Asia, highlighted the importance of AI for businesses in gaining a competitive edge. He emphasized that the collaboration with Gujarat was a step towards accelerating the state’s digital transformation. IBM will also develop an AI curriculum for schools and universities in Gujarat to train students in AI technologies.

Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, mentioned that the MoUs were comprehensive and aimed to boost the adoption of AI in small and medium enterprises. The partnership will also include literacy programs and certifications for professionals in Gujarat to enhance their skills for the future AI-driven economy.
