IBM Adds StreamSets and webMethods to Its Portfolio through Acquisition

IBM has completed the acquisition of StreamSets and webMethods from Software AG, adding new data ingestion and integration capabilities to its software portfolio. The acquisition aims to help organizations address the challenges of managing applications, APIs, events, and data in hybrid cloud environments. StreamSets provides real-time, cloud-based data ingestion capabilities to IBM’s data and AI platform, while webMethods offers integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) capabilities for automation solutions.

With over 1,500 enterprises as current customers, StreamSets and webMethods will provide integration technologies for next-generation AI applications that require data and connectivity across various sources. The global integration software market is expected to exceed $18 billion by 2027, indicating a growing demand for such capabilities.

StreamSets enables users to move large amounts of data from multiple sources to a centralized storage center in real-time, facilitating the ingestion, enrichment, and utilization of streaming data. It will complement IBM’s existing Data Fabric and Data Integration capabilities by allowing the design of streaming data pipelines and providing data observability features. IBM intends to make StreamSets available on major hyperscalers like GCP, Azure, and AWS, in addition to on-premises platforms.

webMethods, on the other hand, helps organizations manage systems, applications, and data silos within enterprise environments. Its iPaaS platform allows users to deploy integrations anywhere and unify integration flows, meeting local data sovereignty requirements while driving innovation and managing complexity. IBM plans to integrate webMethods iPaaS with its own integration products to offer customers hybrid integration across multiple clouds. By supporting various integration patterns, including applications, APIs, events, and B2B, IBM aims to help users build modern, unified applications and services seamlessly.

Dinesh Nirmal, Senior Vice President of Products at IBM Software, emphasized the importance of the acquisition in enabling clients to embrace data and AI while managing application growth and complexity. The added capabilities from StreamSets and webMethods will allow integrators, developers, and IT professionals across various lines of business to build and manage integrations at a larger scale, contributing to competitive advantage for IBM’s clients.
