Hyderabad tourists following Google Maps drive into stream in Kerala

A group of tourists from Hyderabad ended up driving into a stream in Kerala while using Google Maps for navigation, according to police reports. The incident took place near Kuruppanthara in Kerala, when the group of four, including a woman, was on their way to Alappuzha. Heavy rains had caused the stream to overflow onto the road, and as the tourists were unfamiliar with the area, they mistakenly drove straight into the water body while following directions from the mapping app.

Fortunately, the tourists managed to escape unharmed with the help of a nearby police patrol and local residents, although their vehicle was completely submerged underwater. Efforts are now being made to retrieve the vehicle from the stream by authorities at the Kaduthuruthy police station.

This is not the first incident of its kind in Kerala. In a similar incident last year, two young doctors lost their lives in a car accident after allegedly following directions from Google Maps and driving into a river. Following this unfortunate event, the Kerala Police issued precautionary guidelines for the use of technology, especially during the monsoon season.

Tourists and residents alike are urged to exercise caution and verify directions when using navigation apps, especially in unfamiliar or hazardous conditions. It is essential to prioritize safety and adhere to local signs and warnings to prevent accidents and ensure a safe journey.
