The Australian’s Chief Political Correspondent Geoff Chambers says there was a “huge political witch hunt” for outgoing Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin following the nationwide network outage.

“It started immediately from the government,” he told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

Ms Bayer Rosmarin has resigned following a Senate grilling for the major national outage in telecommunications services for many Australians.

“You’ll see statements from every political party today welcoming her departure,” Mr Chambers said.

“But it is the second biggest telco in this country – we need it to be operating effectively and well.”
