Huawei founder reveals plan to break US sanctions
Note that the code strings for Duo refer to unsupported devices as opposed to uncertified devices such as messages. Unsupported phones do not conform to the Google Mobile Service ecosystem and are largely treated as uncertified models. The difference, however, is that after Duo shuts down these phones on March 31st, users will have a 14-day grace period to save and download their data from Duo before the service stops.
Meanwhile, Huawei founder Ren Zhenfei gave a speech in June last year explaining how Huawei could survive the sanctions imposed by the United States. The speech was published just last week and landed in the South China Morning Post (SCMP). Zhenfei, who is also Huawei’s CEO, said the company needs to decentralize its operations, focus on generating profits, simplifying product lines, and freezing pay for three to five years. The 76-year-old executive said US measures against Huawei made it difficult for the company to implement its original globalization plans and forced Huawei to develop its own production lines. As Zhenfei said, “There is a huge mismatch between our skills and our strategy. It is our weak link and we are forced to start over like elementary school students.”
Zhenfei says Huawei will neither be defeated nor angry with the US. Ren said to Huawei in the summer, “Please do not be upset about temporary US pressure or give up our globalization strategy.” There is no future without globalization (in development and research). Not only did Ren need to motivate employees, he also had to freeze wages for the next three to five years, but said Huawei needs to focus on the bottom line. “We need to gradually shift focus from the top line to the bottom line. All product lines … mustn’t blindly become No. 1 … we don’t have the prerequisites to always fight to be No. 1, “said Ren.” We have to create value and reasonable profits in order to have a healthy Ensure growth. ”Instead of worrying about the number of units Huawei ships, the founder has to focus on profitability.
According to Ren, the US wants Huawei to die. He said, “At first we thought we might have done something wrong, and we did a self-examination. Then came the second and third blows. Then we realized they wanted us to die … but the desire to survive also motivated us “.
