Students in grades 4-12 at the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board will be taking part in a school climate survey from May 21-31. The survey is designed to help the school board gain a better understanding of the school environment in order to make it safer and more inclusive. The survey will cover topics such as inclusion, bullying, mental health, identity, and diversity.
It is mandatory for school boards in Ontario to conduct climate surveys for students, parents, and staff at least once every two years. The surveys are anonymous, and parents have the option to have their children opt out of participating if they choose. While some school boards have separate surveys for elementary and secondary students, HPEDSB administers the same survey to all students.
Parents who are interested in viewing the full survey can access it online. For those who do not wish for their children to participate in the survey, they can contact their child’s school to opt-out.
